Case Study: Look What Paypal Has done

Attention, please.

This is what I found for a client and I feel so sorry for him. Also, I hope that you all won't encounter a customer like that.

The following is what he said,

Recently I sold an iPhone through eBay, the person I sold it to requested that I send it to their work address because no one would be at home to sign for it so I agreed as I didn't see this as a problem. They paid through PayPal and I sent the phone as recorded delivery.

This was early in September. Now the person has raised a claim through PayPal saying that the payment they made for the phone was unauthorized and that they never purchased this item. I sent PayPal all the messages from the buyer and the receipt informing them that the person requested it to be sent to their work address and it has been signed for. Their credit card company put through a chargeback in favour of the person who claimed this was an unauthorized payment and the money was then taken back from my account through PayPal.

So now as it stands, this person has my phone AND my money for the phone. I tried to sort this out through PayPal as this person is a fraud buyer and I thought PayPal would protect me from things like this happening, but they turned me away and said because I didn't post it to the address linked to their eBay account and posted to another address they cannot reimburse me for this payment or protect me - ignoring the fact that I have been a victim of fraud and basically told me they cannot help me. As you can imagine I am so angry about this situation and extremely frustrated because I have no idea how to go about getting my money back for this.

This is so unfortunate for him to lose this case. But this is a lesson that every newbie needs to learn. Only send the item to the address they checked out on. What's done is done. It happens often and these scammers often target new seller accounts as new sellers don't usually know any better.
